Mordrelle Wines
Mordrelle Wines is a family-owned boutique producer based in Hahndorf in South Australia's Adelaide Hills, founded in 2010 by winemaker Martín Morán. Born in Argentina and raised around his family's vineyard in Mendoza, Martín studied viticulture and oenology before travelling to Australia, where he worked vintages in Langhorne Creek, the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. It was in the Adelaide Hills that he met his wife Michelle, whose parents David and Jane Dreckow became part of the winemaking venture from its very first trial vintage, hand-picking, transporting and sampling grapes as a family affair. A sparkling wine crafted for their wedding became the seed of what would grow into Mordrelle Wines.
Working from carefully selected Adelaide Hills vineyard sites, including single-vineyard fruit from Lenswood, Mordrelle crafts small-batch, basket-pressed reds, whites and bottle-fermented sparkling wines across an eclectic range of varieties, from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Grüner Veltliner to Malbec, Dolcetto and Pinot Noir, reflecting Martín's Argentine roots alongside classic Adelaide Hills style. Every label carries an original artwork by Martín's late father, the artist José Luis Moran, turning each bottle into a small tribute to family and heritage. The wines have earned strong recognition from the Halliday Wine Companion and other critics. The cellar door doubles as an art gallery, where visitors can pair tastings with a traditional Argentinian barbecue over the fire.
